Description
Medical Learning Systems is looking for physicians with a strong interest in educating medical students to join our team. We have an innovative and exceptionally effective learning platform, on which we have successfully launched an USMLE Step 1 preparatory product. We are now developing a Step 2 CK product and are seeking authors with exceptional academic credentials and excellent USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK scores.
Responsibilities
The Medical Author will:
- Develop flashcards, study questions, and multiple choice questions.
- Make sure information is properly referenced.
- There may be additional opportunities to participate in the development of additional products (e.g. COMLEX, NCLEX), perform statistical analysis of medical student learning patterns (with the goal of improving the company’s learning algorithms and user experience), represent the company in various social media outlets such as Facebook, and other opportunities.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have/be:
- An M.D.
- Experience writing.
- Experience teaching medicine.
- Passion for education.
- Detail-oriented with good written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent research skills.
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage the projects to accomplish desired results.
- Self-starter who can work independently to solve problems creatively and prioritize tasks.
- A passion for (and proficiency using) technology.
- Proficient with web-based interfaces (e.g. online Content Management Systems).

Description
Medical Learning Systems is looking for a Medical Copy Editor to join our team. This is an ideal role for a freelance medical copy editor who has experience editing and authoring medical content for a professional audience, and who is motivated by potential advancement to a full-time position as Managing Editor (Deputy Editor). Alternatively, someone with a background in science who has strong writing, editing, and research skills and related career aspirations (editing for Cell, Nature, Neuron, etc.) may also be a strong fit for this position.
Responsibilities
The Medical Copy Editor will:
- Question ambiguities and inconsistencies in copy style.
- Make sure references are cited according to AMA style.
- Assist with medical writing and research when requested.
- Correct all typographical, spelling, grammatical and usage errors.
- Check format(s) for consistency and sense (correct size and boldness to correspond to emphasis in copy), use of upper and lower case, use of italics.
- Research current medical knowledge.
- Respond to content-related inquiries.
- Manage website/database content.
- If a candidate is interested, there may be opportunities to represent the company in various social media outlets such as Facebook, and to participate in statistical analysis of medical student learning patterns (with the goal of improving the company’s learning algorithms and user experience).
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have/be:
- Experience with medical (preferred) or biological copyediting.
- Bachelors degree in the sciences (life science degrees and/or an advanced degree is preferred, but not required).

Internships
Company: Medical Learning Systems is a rapidly growing start-up on the cutting-edge of modern medical education. Founded by Harvard-trained physicians, Medical Learning Systems merges advanced learning and memory science to Web 2.0 programming to create personal study programs for our users based on their individual strengths and weaknesses. Our recently launched flagship product — Gunner Training (www.gunnertraining.com) — is already helping hundreds of medical students ace Step 1 of the USMLE, with some reporting scores in the 99th percentile.
Position: Internship (unpaid), 5-10 hours per week, minimum 6-month commitment. You will interface directly with medical students and the company’s executives. Internship duties include database and website content management, researching current medical knowledge, responding to content-related inquiries. There may also be opportunities to represent Gunner Training in various social media outlets such as Facebook and to participate in statistical analysis of medical student learning patterns, with the goal of improving the company’s learning algorithms and user experience. Paid positions and stock options are potentially available following the internship and all successful Interns will receive medical school application review and counseling from the company’s founding physicians such as Dr. Frank Lau, currently a Resident in Harvard Combined Plastic Surgery Training Program and a Clinical Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Requirements: Undergraduate sophomores or juniors preferred. Excellent grasp of both English and the biological sciences is required, as demonstrated by a class writing sample and transcript of grades from biology courses. Gregarious, social personalities are a plus given that this is a customer-facing position.
