Inspiration & Vision
Gunner Training was founded by Harvard-trained physicians who excelled at their coursework and standardized tests such as the MCAT and the USMLE, but who were nevertheless frustrated by the countless hours they wasted relearning things they forgot because they didn’t review the material soon enough, or because they didn’t fully master it the first time around. Our founders also lamented the lack of a student-centric and personalized approach to medical education; medical education, they believe, should be based on the latest research in learning and memory, be data- and student-driven, and conform to individuals’ strengths, weaknesses, and priorities. Inspired by findings related to spaced learning and educational psychology, confident in the power of database-driven web applications, and frustrated by the quality of online USMLE programs, Gunner’s founders set out to create what is now the fastest growing USMLE program on the market.
Following the success of Gunner’s USMLE Step 1 program, and after realizing just how critical knowledge retention is—not only to improve individuals’ performance on standardized exams, but also to improve the quality-of-care health professionals deliver and, therefore, the sustainability of the healthcare system in general—Gunner Training’s vision has expanded and we are more motivated than ever to achieve it.
We see an opportunity to support all health professionals throughout the course of their entire career—all the way from their basic science and math training in High School and College to their medical licensing exams and continuing education requirements. We aim to raise awareness of the importance of personal knowledge management for health professionals and deliver best-in-class technology to achieve not only efficient and effective knowledge retention, but also faster and more personalized learning.
